With the progression of Smart Phones into microcomputers and the seemingly unlimited Apps available, it can be hard to distinguish the useful from the useless. There are Apps which help save money on shopping, compare prices, and find coupons on your favorite items. A GPS can then direct you to the store, or there is a link to the website, for a nearly seamless experience.
Sorting through the hundreds of apps which achieve each function is the challenge. You must also guard against overspending due to the ease of the experience. Here are free apps that can help you keep more money in your pocket while finding the best price and maximizing discounts for the items you need to purchase.
The Rather-Be-Shopping App provides online coupons for 600 stores, plus in-store coupons you can use by pulling up the discount on your SmartPhone. The iBotta motto is, “better than coupons.” The app offers cash back rebates for items you buy every day, including grocery store purchases and off brands.
Here is how the app works: download the app and then choose the items that you want to buy on your next shopping trip. Then, earn money by doing simple tasks. For example, you might watch a short video and earn a $4 rebate or read a fact about the product and earn $1.25. Visit a partner store and make the purchase, then snap an image of the receipt barcode into the app. One receipt can offer rebates on multiple offers. You earn cash back after the app verifies your purchase. There are over 50 retailers nationwide supporting the app with new stores added weekly.
The app currently offers $10 for signing up and using the app. Among the 80 retailers they currently support, here are a few popular retailers including Rite Aid, Costco, Dollar Tree, CVS, Food Lion, and Walgreens. Withdrawals can occur through PayPal or Venmo, or you may choose gift cards to your favorite stores.
You can combine iBotta rebates with manufacturer coupons, store coupons, e-coupons or other discounts or rebates, multiplying your savings.
The Saving Star app focuses on grocery stores, pharmacies, and online retailers. They have partnered with over 60,000 stores and 100 online retailers to bring you weekly savings. When your account reaches a balance of $20.00, you may request a check.
The Shopmium app offers rebate offers each week. You select an offer, buy the product and scan your receipt for the rebate. You may not use other coupons or discounts to qualify for the rebate, and they exclude certain stores from their program. For each rebate, you must scan a separate receipt. On the plus side, you receive a deposit into your PayPal account after each approval, rather than having to wait for an account balance to reach a threshold.

The app works similarly to iBotta, in that you choose a rebate offer, complete a simple task or learn about the product before making the purchase. Once you buy the product, scan the receipt to qualify for the rebates. You can have the money directly deposited into your bank, added to your PayPal account, or exchanged for gift cards.
The Cartsmart app specializes in saving you money at the grocery store. You can use the App to build your grocery list while finding the best deals and coupons based on local stores. After making your purchases, snap a picture of the receipt to qualify for the rebates. They will deposit rebate savings into your PayPal account within 48 hours of verifying the receipt.
